Dear Verizon,

Can you please sue my carrier, Cingular*, for all the text messages they send me?

Thanks

* Cingular is soon to be part of AT&T, not the AT&T we all remember, but the new AT&T that was SBC until they renamed themselves AT&T after they bought what was left of AT&T after they ran themselves into the ground. Not to be confused with AT&T wireless, that was sold off to Cingular and them merged in with them.

UUASC Presentation (virtulization)

Friday, February 16th, 2007

So I have been invited to present on virtulization to UUASC LA. I will be speaking on

Those are the mainstream virtulization projects. And the ones I have the most experience with.

So I was thinking of how to structure the presentation. I will be using the following structure:

Talk about Qemu/Virtualbox and how they are very similar to VmWare Server (free) as well as how XEN uses them to support guests that are not able to be paravirtualized.
Talk about Xen and how it is similar to VmWare ESX (the non free version).

I will have 15 minutes. And if you know me at all you know I enjoy a soapbox.

Project Update

Friday, February 16th, 2007

I did the SCALE conference last weekend. I put in time at 3 booths (SFVLUG/UUASC/LiLAX). I visited a number of vendors and collected several business cards. One idea that I hatched at SCALE, was a desktop bakeoff. Very similiar to the Exchange replacement and Virtulization bakeoffs that LiLAX has done before. I spoke with people from Linspire/Novell/Ubuntu and am working on getting speakers lined up.

Unfortunately SFVLUG wasn’t really able to be as cool and awesome as I would have liked. Maybe next year.

I apologize to my readers for the content spam that has popped up on my blog recently. I have done my best to delete the spam and have setup my blog to not allow auto posting of comments. They will be sent to me for review first.

I hope that provides a better experience for my audience.

DST = GRQ?

So I have been thinking about the coming Daylight Savings Time change. Is there a Get Rich Quick scheme in there somewhere? Sort of like y2k consulting only better as its post bubble and google rules the world? :) *evil laugh*

I have to wonder who decided that an extension of daylight savings time by four weeks was necessary and why? I see a lot of people talking about it in the IT world. (See http://tinyurl.com/2cg3lq for some more context).

Life Update

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

So life has been a bit of a whirlwind lately.

Work has been very busy due to several major product launches and a string of live site issues. Fortunately the live site issues helped us identify a number of suboptimal settings and holes in our infrastructure which we are in the process of fixing. This last week was nice and quiet and allowed us to relax and unwind a bit and tie up some loose ends. We are starting in our new office tomorrow. Should be an interesting experience.

I have settled down to just one LUG (SFVLUG). I am attempting to attend every meeting. We are building out new infrastructure to support our growing efforts. I am also attempting to attend both UUASC monthly meetings this year.

Thats all for now.
